Tatweer Misr taps IGY for IL Monte Galala Marina

IGY Marinas takes on IL Monte Galala Marina in Ain Sokhna

Egyptian developer Tatweer Misr has signed a strategic agreement appointing IGY Marinas as the operator of IL Monte Galala Marina, the waterfront marina component of its IL Monte Galala destination on the Red Sea coast near Ain Sokhna. The agreement was announced on 24 September 2026 during the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, which ran from 23 to 26 September in Monaco and featured Egyptian participation focused on expanding yacht tourism and marina development.

The signing was carried out by Dr Ahmed Shalaby, co-founder, president and CEO of Tatweer Misr, and Steve English, CEO of IGY Marinas. The announcement also came amid a wider Egyptian push to position the country as a more competitive destination for international yachting, with government and tourism officials using Monaco’s flagship industry event to promote Egypt’s coastline, marinas and marine services.

The move is significant for the local market because it gives an Egyptian coastal project an internationally established marina operator with an existing global network. IGY Marinas is a subsidiary of MarineMax, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol HZO. According to the company, IGY operates 24 marinas across 14 countries and serves more than 10,000 annual vessel customers.

What the deal means for Egypt’s Red Sea tourism ambitions

For Ain Sokhna and the wider Red Sea corridor, the partnership is about more than berths and docking services. It points to a larger effort to widen Egypt’s tourism mix beyond the long-dominant resort and beach-hotel model. Yacht traffic, marina services, marine leisure and superyacht stopovers are increasingly being positioned as part of a year-round coastal economy rather than a purely seasonal one.

Egypt’s official participation at Monaco this year underlined that direction. The Maritime Transport and Logistics Sector said an Egyptian delegation attended the show to discuss cooperation with marina operators, investors and marine tourism specialists, while the State Information Service said the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Egyptian Tourism Authority, joined for a second consecutive year to strengthen Egypt’s presence in the global yachting sector.

That policy backdrop matters for projects such as IL Monte Galala, which sits on one of Egypt’s most strategically visible coastal stretches. Ain Sokhna already benefits from its relative proximity to Greater Cairo compared with many other Red Sea destinations, while the Galala area has seen years of infrastructure and tourism-led development designed to support long-stay and all-season visitation.

Inside IL Monte Galala Marina

Under the plans announced for the project, IL Monte Galala Marina is expected to accommodate more than 150 yachts, with berth sizes ranging from 10 metres to 80 metres. Around 10 percent of the berths are designated for yachts over 40 metres, including two berths for 80-metre superyachts. A helipad is also part of the marina’s offering, intended to serve owners, guests and visiting superyacht passengers.

The marina itself represents an investment of roughly USD 44 million, while the wider marina-led phase at IL Monte Galala is valued at around USD 1 billion. Tatweer Misr has said the broader mixed-use phase is designed to combine yachting infrastructure with hospitality, business events and waterfront activity, with expectations of creating about 8,000 direct jobs, nearly 25,000 indirect jobs and attracting more than one million visitors annually.

Those figures position the marina not simply as an add-on amenity for property owners, but as a destination asset intended to generate footfall and spending beyond the residential component. In practical terms, that could mean stronger demand for restaurants, marine maintenance, events, transport and hospitality services in and around the development.

A global operator with a superyacht network

IGY’s role also brings international operating standards that are especially relevant in the superyacht segment, where service consistency, docking logistics and network access carry outsized importance. The company says its IGY Trident membership platform is invitation-only and offers benefits including guaranteed or priority access to dockage across its network, alongside preferred pricing on selected services.

For Egypt, that matters because one of the long-standing challenges in attracting larger yacht traffic has not been coastline appeal alone, but the need for integrated services, recognized operating standards and smoother entry into international cruising itineraries. A marina linked to a known operator can carry more weight with owners, captains and charter decision-makers evaluating potential Red Sea calls.

IGY already has an international footprint spanning the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. On its official network pages, it lists destinations including Cannes, Ibiza, Málaga, St Katharine Docks in London and Sindalah Marina in Saudi Arabia. Adding IL Monte Galala to that broader orbit could help boost visibility for Ain Sokhna among global yachting professionals who may not traditionally view Egypt as a routine marina stop.

Tatweer Misr’s broader coastal strategy

Tatweer Misr, which was established in 2014, says it now has six developments across Egypt: IL Monte Galala on the Red Sea; Fouka Bay, D-Bay and Salt on the North Coast; Bloomfields in Mostakbal City; and Rivers in West Cairo. The company describes IL Monte Galala as its flagship project in Ain Sokhna, built across about 545 acres.

The marina agreement also fits into a two-coast vision. Tatweer Misr has been positioning its North Coast and Red Sea assets as part of a broader destination-building strategy, and has pointed to future marina linkages between the Mediterranean and Red Sea sides of its portfolio. For Egypt-based readers, that is an important clue that the company sees yachting not as a niche luxury add-on, but as part of how premium coastal developments may compete for international attention in the years ahead.

Why this matters locally

  • Ain Sokhna gains global marina expertise: the operator now attached to the project manages an international portfolio rather than a single standalone marina.
  • Red Sea tourism could diversify: the focus expands beyond classic resort stays to include yacht stopovers, marine services and waterfront events.
  • High-spending visitor segments are in view: superyachts and long-range cruising traffic typically generate spending across hospitality, fuel, provisioning and transport.
  • Egypt’s coastal competition is intensifying: with major Gulf and Mediterranean destinations investing heavily in marina infrastructure, operator quality increasingly matters.

For the Sinai & Red Sea beat, the partnership is best understood as a marker of where coastal development in Egypt is heading. The headline is not only that a marina operator has been appointed, but that Ain Sokhna is being packaged more deliberately as part of an international marine tourism circuit. If execution matches ambition, IL Monte Galala Marina could become one of the clearest tests yet of whether Egypt can convert Red Sea geography into a stronger, year-round yachting economy.
